XP2003 as the rear loco of NT31 Brisbane XPT sits on Central Platform 1 only minutes before it's 16:12 departure to begin its 13 Hour journey to Queensland.
This was taken in 2012, at that time I was quite unaware that so many changes would happen to these services in the future. Timetables have made this service operate drastically different, tickets are no longer sold for this service in Queensland and this service is now operated by a new operator, NSW TrainLink.
I do thank myself for getting the clock in the shot because as of 20th October 2013, new timetables came into action. These timetables have had a devastating hit to passengers who use this service to Roma Street station in Brisbane.
Under the new timetable this service now departs Sydney Central shortly after 2pm and arrives into Brisbane at an inconvenient 4am. The return service also leaves Queensland an hour earlier making a change off the tilt train from Northern Queensland no longer available without a 14 hour wait.
These changes to this service has occurred due to the Queensland government pushing for the XPT to run in and out of Brisbane without affecting their local peak hour trains. It now appears that the Queensland government wants nothing to do with this service as they no longer sell NSW TrainLink tickets in Queensland.
