The Baldwin-built Mikado, 5917 was one of a class of NSWGR locomotives, specially ordered from the USA due to a severe engine shortage in NSW at the time.
They provided a sterling service for many years, originally as oil burners, but later mostly converted to coal.
In this scene, the 59 is running over very familiar rails, with most of their service being on the main Northern lines.
