My in-laws owned a farm about 3km from here so it was easy to sneak out for half an hour to grab a shot while everyone else was having a Sunday afternoon nap!
On 22 November Australian National's GM 2/32 are seen near Lake View with the Sunday afternoon Dry Creek (Adelaide) to Port Augusta freight carrying loading for a variety of destinations beyond.
AN's predecessor Commonwealth Railways took delivery of 47 EMD-powered GM class locos between 1951 and 1967 from Clyde Engineering of Sydney. While the majority were fitted with 567C engine and had six traction motors, the first 11 , of which GM2 was one, had only 4 traction motors, a 567B power plant and A1A-A1A bogie configuration.
GM2 is preserved at the National Railway Museum in Adelaide.
