A shunter watches on as 8256 starts to pull the passenger cars of 3AS8, the Indian Pacific forward, towards platform 3 at Central, on Wednesday 25th May, 2016. This is believed to be one of the first times an 82 class has been part of the Indian Pacific loco combination.
It is believed the 82 class may replace the more regular DL class on Indian Pacific banking duties, required to assist the train up the Blue Mountains on the return leg to Adelaide. Pacific National currently have a number of spare 82 class locomotives due to the downturn in Hunter Valley coal traffic and recent loss of the Leigh Creek coal service.
