8256 is seen leading the first portion of 3AS8, the Indian Pacific as it heads towards Platform 3 at Central on Wednesday 25th May 2016. This is believed to be one of the first times an 82 class has been part of the Indian Pacific loco combination.
It is believed the 82 class may replace the more regular DL class on Indian Pacific banking duties, required to assist the train up the Blue Mountains on the return leg to Adelaide. Pacific National currently have a number of spare 82 class locomotives due to the downturn in Hunter Valley coal traffic and recent loss of the Leigh Creek coal service.
