In a rare run on the Adelaide Hills South Line , The Explorer hauled by 961 runs through Balhannah station heading towards Murray Bridge on 27-6-1993.
Australian Nationals Explorer train was short lived running a few trips on the northern broad gauge network and this south line trip.
By October 961 was starting to be used on freight duties and the passenger cars were later stored.
Fast forward to 2016 and 961 has been preserved by ARHS Canberra and The Explorer steel cars were sold to Steamrail in Victoria .
