A steady flow of crude oil from the Mereenie wells was railed to Adelaide from Alice Spings for a number of years. A daily trip movement transferred the tanks between Alice Springs and the oil terminal 22km south.
The loaded tanks are seen on 17 August 1989 heading back to Alice Springs over the concrete bridge at Roe Creek behind local Australian ALCo DL531 shunt unit 863.
