Southern Downs Steam Railway's C17 971 & DH45 plod upgrade through Ballandean on the return run of a day trip to the border town of Wallangara.
This once vital connection between Brisbane and Wallangarra saw traffic dwindle after the opening of the standard gauge route to South Brisbane along the East Coast.
Trains carrying freight continued to run over the lines full length until the 1980's. Since that time, the line sees only tour train traffic as well as the occasional maintenance train. The establishment of Southern Downs Steam Railway in Warwick has seen regular steam hauled trains operate on the line since 2009.
