A Push-Pull Passenger Train (ex Queensland SX Carriage Set) was used in Auckland Commuter Network for about 10 years until Electrification was about to be completed.
DBR 1254 was built in 1965 at General Motors (EMD), Canada - EMD G8 A2090 as DB 1005 (A1A-A1A, livery:NZGR Carnation/Midland Red, with 3 White strips), entered service 10/1965, renumbered c1978 to DB 1053, exported 01/08/1980,
reclassified 02/1982 at Clyde Eng, SA - EMD G18AR 81/974,
imported 31/10/1981 and entered service 26/02/1982 at Woburn Shops (livery:NZR `Fruit Salad' International Orange/Yellow BS 08e51/Grey BS 11A11), altered 06/2003 at Hillside Shops (livery:MAXX Dark Blue) and withdrawn 07/2015 at Woburn Shops.
10 950hp A1A-A1A Class DBR (GM EMD G18AR) Locomotives were rebuilt from Class DB (GM EMD G8)..They were rebuilt at Clyde, Rosewater, Adelaide, South Australia between 1980-1981. Originally there were 17 DB built at GM EMD London, Canada in 1965. Only half are still in service and probably to be withdrawn shortly.
