DC 4444, DFB 7158 & DFB 7348 with Kiwi Rail Q4G at Woburn, Wellington, New Zealand on 25/10/2017 en-route to Woburn Railway Workshops.
DC 4444 was built in 1967 at General Motors EMD, Canada (A2225) to DA 1526, entered service 10/1967,, exported to Sth Australia 20/03/1979, rebuilt 10/1979 at Clyde Eng, Sth Australia (79/9330 to DC4444, imported to NZ 26/10/1979 at Lyttelton Port, reentered service 27/03/1980 (livery:NZR `Fruit Salad' International Orange/Yellow BS 08e51/Grey BS 11A11 ),
accident 06/07/1984 at Feilding (Accident, Loco Derailment, @ Makino Road, Nth Feilding. 1st Loco with DX 5039 & Tr No. 639), altered 12/1996 at Woburn Shops ((Recabbed, fitted with current design cab, altered 07/2008 at Woburn Shops (185/240) (livery:MAXX Dark Blue , set:Auckland SA/D 17: SD5859+SA5828+SA5868+SA5889, withdrawn 08/2015 and reinstated/repainted 18/04/2016 at Woburn Shops (livery:Kiwirail , Mk II (Vertical Seperations of Main Colours on Car Body) ).
85 Class DC GM EMD G22AR Locomotives were rebuilt from GM EMD G12. 80 were rebuilt at Clyde, Rosewater, Adelaide, South Australia between 1978-1983 and 5 were rebuilt at Woburn Workshops, Wellington in 1980/1. 15 DC's were reclassed to DCP (Passenger) from about 2002.
Only around 30 now in service and the Class probably be withdrawn in the next few years with the completion of DL purchases and the Electrification of Auckland Suburban Passenger Network.
