49 of GE U26C (2600hp, Co-Co) numbered DX 2600-2648 were built in two batches, 1st 15 arrived in 1972 to 2nd 34 arrived in 1976 and were for the North Island Main Truck between Auckland and Wellington Erie, PA, USA. Since 1988 DX's have been in the South Island due to the Electrification of the Main Truck between Hamilton & Palmerston North. They were later rebuilt to DXB, DXC and DXR in the 1990's & 2000's.
