Australian National narrow gauge 1067mm (3'6" ALCo #873 poses by the train control hut at Kevin, South Australia on 3 February 1992.
Gypsum was, and still is, mined and railed from this location, but 873 was there to pick up a rake of wagons loaded with salt on this day, and in fact following this particular move subsequent loads were transferred to road transport.
44 of ALCo DL531s were built for the South Australian Railways between 1960-1970 under licence by AE Goodwin of Sydney, and a 45th member was later purchased from the Silverton Tramway. A handful remain in service including 873 which 26 years later stills carries its AN green and yellow livery.
