25 years ago, and at the time one of Austrlian National's GM43's rarer excursions, working a grain train with 841 from Saddleworth to Port Adelaide on 8 January 1993.
The 47 members of the GM class up until 1992 had operated solely on standard gauge lines, but two were converted to Broad Gauge (5'3" to cover withdrawal of other BG ALCo units.
From memory they had run light engine from either Burra or Farrell Flat to Saddleworth. Thought to be its first working on the BG North lines, GM43 worked a number of grainies on the Burra line during the following weeks.
