Australian National Railways Goodwin-Alco 942 is seen stabled around the turntable at Ararat loco depot, 130 miles west of Melbourne. This loco had been brought over to Ararat loco depot to train the Victorian crews on the operation of the "930" series locomotives.
Once trained, the crews could then operate this type of loco on the express interstate freight trains between Melbourne, Victoria and Adelaide, South Australia.
Ararat loco depot has since been closed and no loco crews are based at Ararat anymore.
The local shunting loco, 0-6-0 W-263 can just be seen on the left of my picture. 12:25pm, Saturday the 29th of October, 1983.
