8182 prepares to couple up to AK2383. 8182 would then drag the three AK Cars away from the remaining "S" Set motor cars, so as brake tests could be conducted prior to departure.
Over the first week of August, 2013, the AK Track Recording Cars made one of their last runs around the Sydney metropolitan rail network. To remove the requirement to use diesel locomotives in the underground (City Circle, Eastern Suburbs, New Southern Railway and Epping to Chatswood Rail Link), trials had previously been conducted using surplus suburban electric rolling stock. Over the week, the AK Cars were operated with two suburban electric motor cars bracketing the set of three track recording vehicles. The consist was C3063/C3982/AKCars/C3044/C3949, with the motor cars at each end marshaled "elephant style".
