Where a user has a news feed filter applied, offer that news feed in RSS format for the user (perhaps at /user/[id]/feed.xml). This would be a public feed allowing RSS readers such as Feedly to tap in.

Implement a per-post reputation system, similar to the one used on IPBoard forums such as rmweb.co.uk
Posts could be liked, flagged as informative/funny/friendly/thanks or any other number of fields. This can help build the reputation of a user and help summarise a forum thread.
