Hi all,

Over the weekend of 19-20 June  then Main South was closed with trains being diverted via the Illawarra. I was out taking photos over both days, going to Thirroul and Unanderra on Saturday, and Unanderra, Pt Kembla and Coniston on Sunday with hurstville1.

These are my photos from the weekend and if anyone else has any pics, feel free to post them here.

NOTE: Not included are coal train pics because there are too many, and all but one were 4 82 class. (NOTE: Excludes Wongawilli Coalie)

Saturday

6MB4 passes Thirroul behind NR57, NRXX and NR66.

3PW4 passes Unanderra behind the lash up of NR85 (SS), NR14, NR84 (SS)

A Wongawilli Coalie passes Unanderra behind EL61 and EL51.

8119, 81XX and 8165 crawl past Unanderra with a Manildra flour to Nowra.

8130 and 8152 pass Unanderra on a grainie.

4PS6 waits at Unanderra for a northbound Cityrail train to overtake (which was my train back to Thirroul)

4PS6 is later seen at Thirroul with the driver leaning on the horn and bell ringing.

Sunday

The Wongawilli Coalie is seen again behind EL61 and EL51.

7MB4 is seen waiting at Unanderra during a crew change behind a clean NR34, NR50 and NR119

8162 and 8140 pass Unanderra with a 9 wagon Manildra train

8183, with a missing "81" and 8123 arrive at Unanderra with a grain train.

7BM7 passes Coniston behind LDP001 and LDP003 (Yes, this photo is legal, lense of the camera is stuck through a hole in the fence)

8011 shunts Pt Kembla

Recently repainted 8102 lazes around near Foreshore Rd level crossing.(Again, this photo is legal, lense of the camera is stuck through a hole in the fence)

7BM4 passes Coniston behind NR39, NR40 and NR115, all in PN Stars livery.

Enjoy. Smile

What time did 7BM4 eventually make an appearance? We considered looking for a shot of it, but 2928 passed through Robertson slower than we anticipated, and by the time we saw it at Ocean View, it was nearly 1700 and the sun was going, going gone.

We did enjoy chasing those two LDP's though, they sure kill it up the mountain though!

Great shots!

I have noticed that PN/PNQ Drivers always pull down the blinds in an in-active locomotive cab, presumably to protect the dash.  It is something that QR should employ ...

Great photos!

An idle comment however. I find it is a disturbing reflection on society in general that people are beginning to post disclaimers stating that photos are legal, lest other members scream "TR3SP4SS3R!!!!1111!1!1"

Please carry on posting, there are some great shots!

I was the driver on this train and we were 40t under a full load for the two LDPs.  Lowest speed up the moutain was 27kph.  They should be good for 1050t at least on a 1:30, not the 900t they have currently.

I noticed you taking photos, I presumed you were waiting for the EL Zorro train.

When I was at QR in Sydney, the rear units on the MB/BM services always had the blinds down etc...

I assume you mean in QLD? Not sure what they do there!

Oh snap, there was an El Zorro train running as well? We planned a shot at Jannali then lunch in the city, but when we missed you we put the chase on, and went all the way to Werai. Noticed the wrong road at Werai, I would assume they were doing work somewhere? Where was the 'Zorro train, as that might have explained the delay to 2928, as it took him longer than expected to get between Burrawang and Ocean View.

Vince - the first photo, the one of 8011 is a real winner, although I wonder if the crooked angle helps it or hinders it - I'd certainly like it more if it was a straight-horizon shot, but there's nothing wrong with the crooked "artistic angle" either.

Just something to ponder, I guess! Great shot either way.
