Spaniards Hill speed restriction

There is a current 40 kph speed restriction between Menangle and Douglas Park on both the up and the down. This is due to monitoring equipment, cables and the like, hooked up to register movement of the track due to underground mining.

Question - is there a problem here? When the gear got fitted the restriction was imposed but then seemed to be lifted.

Apparently there is the same things on the Hume Hwy!

Simply the equipment must of did its job and noticed sudden movement that could be dangerous!

When is this restriction likely to be lifted MBAX?

Forecast lift date is 21/7/10 according to RailCorp's current speed notice.  Yes, it's in the ARTC area, but RailCorp still list all of NSW in their speed notice.

Menangle to Douglas Park is just to indicate roughly where it is, the kilometreages define the actual portion of track restricted.

AS FS says, Speed notices have always been written up as between two locations, used to be signalling sections for a while, then the actual kilometres are shown.

Be a bit hard now though, wouldn't it?  Junee - Macarthur, Junee - Macarthur, Junee - Macarthur, gets a bit repetitive after a while.  Even crossovers and unattended interlockings are a long way apart now.  Station names is pretty good, but they should maybe recognise some other landmarks.  Spaniards Hill would be a good case in point, every driver knows where it is, no worries.

I always had it as 110.000KM actually. Well done. Mention it to others and not many current employees know about that.

Ex-guard electric train drivers who have never worked south of Macarthur are welcome to join the discussion, but don't expect a big reaction or anything.  Wink

The local paper had an ad from Illawarra Coal this week explaining that the monitoring gear is in place as the Appin Mine is tunnelling under both the Freeway and Railway this month.
