This is just one of two fantastic rail related things I plan on doing.

Two events, all in a row.  I HAVE NEVER HAD IT SO GOOD. and anyone can join in both just like I have.

Ok, you need to pay for and book on the Hills to The bay, as well as a sleeper compartment at Seymour.....

.....but you can do that and .....

....do not forget the A.R.E. Tallarook Train Watchers Night which is on the Friday.

How am I doing them both
I will be breaking my Sprinter ride on Friday as I journey up there.

Shall be staying there all evening long

Catch the last, or the second last V/Line service to Seymour

Head to the SRHC depot and the sleepers there, and I should be ready for the Hills to the bay on the following morning.

More about the Tallarook Train Watchers Night
It is a free event for A.R.E. members.

Non members may come for a once off 'free sample'.

No booking, just turn up at any time after 2pm on Friday.  Then head to Seymour with the last Sprinter as I plan on doing.
JGS Well. We'll see about THAT!

Jim, what excitement lies in store at the Tallarook night?

I may have to pack a sandwich and come along...

Oh well, I'll just turn my frown upside-down and put on a happy face. Sure, I'm in a tizzy, but I'll be grinnin' like an old Cheshire cat in no time, I tell ya!

The Tallarook Train Watchers...

...Get to see inside the Tallarook railway station as it would be fully open, including the old Signal box, ticket window area and more.

....Get to meet other rail buffs

....Nice Social event for many

....Great scenery with the Tallarook ranges in the foreground

....Many trains, all at full line speed. All are faster here than at Seymour.

....They provide a sheet of paper with all the trains listed upon it.

....The fundraising BBQ.  Funds go to the Tallarook railway station - restoration and works.  There was once a room at the back, which Bruce wants to re-build.  He is also at an endless battle against the termites who are doing their best to eat all the wooden bits of the station.

....Get to let the A.R.E. president himself know how you feel about the idea of a Siemens train tour to Lilydale and Belgrave, or an Xtrapolis tour to Frankston and other South side locations.  This may be the only way you can get to ride such trains to those locations.

What do you have to loose by just turning up for say half an hour to see what is going on there?

So... about the....  SRHC Hills to the Bay....

I am attending this trip, However I think it might be a bit more quieter than the New Years Eve special  Razz. Looking forward to it.

Yeah quieter, I won't be there!

I did in June 2007, and I was approached by someone there, verbally abused and told to "get the f*** off out of Victoria". I would have done just that, but I was accompanying a friend collecting YOUR money for a SRHC tour.

Charming. Sounds like there's at least one angry little person there.

No wonder railfans have a bad name. The normal ones get lumped in with the abovementioned mouth-breathing, bottom feeding pond scum.

Cheers,
Matt

Before I was abused, I was asked "Are you on Ausloco?"... so I suspect it was a personal snipe as well.

This was surprising though, literally, I had been in Victoria for less than 24hrs when it happened!  Razz

Was it at Tallarook?

If so, Bruce McLaren would love to know about that, and whom did it.

Somewhat outraged by that treatment I am, and I know Bruce would be also.

What is ''AusLoco''?

Yes, it was indeed Tallarook with the 'Train Watchers', on Friday 22nd June 2007, again, when Loco and I came to visit Tallarook briefly to collect your money for a SRHC trip, was when this occurred.

I figured as you all weren't a 'society' as such, I was a 'foreigner' and never before had I seen a group of blokes with deckchairs gather at a public railway station to do trainspotting, my complaint would be ignored.

Ausloco is a Yahoo! Group forum discussing pretty much loco hauled trains from freights to works to heritage trains on mainlines.

While I haven't been to the trainwatchers nights (doesn't really interest me), I have been on a number of ARE tours over the years. Both the trainwatchers nights and the tours are run by Bruce McLaren who is also the president of the ARE. The people on the tours are normal enough compared to some other organisations and Bruce is pretty easy going.

As far as the verbal abuse goes, no excuse for that.
