I suppose I am being pedantic. I have always assumed that the Blackwater system ends at Gregory junction, and then becomes the Goonyella system. I work on that assumption as at the Gregory starter, heading north, is where the mainline radio changes channel from 82 to 83.
Additionally, once we "turn the corner" we become a down train again, with the appropriate change to train number. However, the KM pegs continue to count up to the Oaky Creek angle. At that point, it starts to count down towards the north.
So, when I said in my previous post that the Goonyella system was closed at that time, I referred to trains coming from the north, Coppabella and Jillalan. The Blackwater system was still up and running, in a similar way to how, I believe, PN were coming down from the north to Yan Yan, and setting back into Kestral then back to Yan Yan, to be the right way round for the trip north again, during the blackwater system shutdown due to the flooding.
We were 9F18 departing Lake Vermont at approx 1700 hrs, 02/02/11, and as far as I know, there was another LV train ready to head up to follow us through.
