  chriss Train Controller

The Bellarine Railway is excited to announce that an agreement has been reached with the

ARHS Vic division to relocate former Fyansford locomotive G33 from the museum at Williamstown to Lakers Siding storage facility.

The move is anticipated to take place early 2013 with restoration to begin soon after, with G33 returning to service in late 2014 early 2015.

We need your help to make this happen.

How

  • All donations over $300 will guarantee the donor a seat on the Official Train when the locomotive returns to service,

  • All donations over $1000 will guarantee the donor a 32km cab ride in the ASG on The Bellarine Railway;

  • All donations over $3000 will guarantee the donor a full day driver experience on the locomotive – where YOU will drive it with a goods train for 32km on The Bellarine Railway.

All donations are tax deductible.

Hi Chriss, do you have a ball park figure that you need to raise to get G33 out of ARHS?

If there preliminary estimate on work is somewhere near the figure they have stated
they have just hit a home run.

Seems most of BR's new additions are in good condition! Poziers is a fair example of this I think.

Don't forget Poziers spent most of it's time undercover.
The ASG has spent 50 years exposed to salt air and rain so common sense dictate's it will be a much bigger job in terms of Expense and time.

wow... job and a half coming up... still time & money will solve most if not all problems...

I wish them all the best... would be an impressive beast in action !!!

I noticed in the attached flyer for Bellarine there is a photo of kiddies being carted around in a couple of open wagons behind Thomas. I think it is really delightful, but they must have different rules in Victoria to allow this compared to the fuss made about a similar situation up the GMR in NSW.

I'm not sure that "kiddies being carted around in a couple of open wagons behind Thomas" is quite a fair description of what happens at "A day out with Thomas" events at the Bellarine Railway. For starters, qualified guards travel in the wagons with the family groups and there are clear safety instructions given and enforced.

The next Thomas event week-end is up on the website, in early October, so anyone is welcome to come along, have a great family day out (and ensure everything is run to high standards on the "Troublesome Truck Rides"). I can assure UP9372 these events are indeed "delightful". Why not come along and enjoy the fun?

This thread is more about a wonderful project being undertaken by the railway, the restoration of the only surviving ASG and the only one to run in Victoria. It's a huge task but one to which, I understand, a great deal of thought has been given. I for one have sent off a few hard earned dollars and I would encourage anyone out there who would like to see this now unique locomotive running, to get right behind the project and support it in anyway you can.

Well done to the ARHS Vic Division and the Bellarine Railway in coming this far. Now the real work begins with every dollar being important.

I agree.

I think we can all keep discussing G33, and leave the other stuff for other threads, eh?

Not being critical of BPR or anything but how many steam locomotives do they want or need?

On a positive side, BPR got the largeest collection of 3.6 inch gauge steam loco's anywhere around Australia (both ex-government & ex-private-industrial operators).

The railway line will suit the ASG well.
  VBAndy Chief Commissioner

Please, elaborate on how the line suits the ASG?

I've been going throught history of the ASG's, they derail from sharp curves and multiple points, if the Garratts are low on water, that what happens. But for the BPR it wouldn't be a problem for them.

I don't think I ever recall a AD60 ever derailed before, pictures nor videos to show anything, not to my knowledge anyways.

I'm just pretty surprise on the collection, that's all. I'm just wondering on how they fit all their engines around the place?

They pack them up into boxes when they're done.
Well most of the time, every now and again they get left out until someone comes to clean it up anyway.

Moving back to the topic, anyone wishing to see this huge piece of history back in action please consider making a contribution via the links in this thread.  I'm sure the Bellarine Railway will put it to good use in returning the ASG to the Geelong region and to the rails.

We have a brand spanking new shed at lakers Siding, that's where.
Not all are stored there though. Some not being looked at at Lakers are at Queenscliff workshop, and where 1 or 2 are used for day to day operations.

Hi Chriss, you mentioned a goods train. Do these run often? I live fairly close to the Bellarine railway and would like to see some freight in action on the line.

Any idea when the next one will be?

Sorry to take the thread off topic...

To get it back on topic well done on the creation of this idea, I would love to see the G33 in service in the Geelong area again.

Cheers,
Darcy.
