EL Borro will still be around they are a specialised operator and there is a market for that.
Maybe just doing odds and ends but they will still be around.

RAIL freight operator El Zorro Transport has sought to reassure its customers and backers the business is financially secure.
It follows rumours circulating that El Zorro Transport was in financial strife and owed industry groups substantial amounts of money, including millions of dollars to VicTrack.
In a statement to? The Weekly Times,? El Zorro Transport managing director Ray Evans said there had been a number of business issues which had challenged the company during the past few months. Mr Evans said these included the US drought ramping up the Australian grain export program, the Wettenhall Group transport operation entering into administration and the collapse of a bridge at Boggabri in northern NSW hampering train operations to Newcastle. "El Zorro has been hurt financially by the above,'' he said. "El Zorro continues to work with our financiers, customers and suppliers. "I am confident that El Zorro can continue to be a commercial and viable rail operator delivering much needed competition to rural Australia.
''VicTrack digressed from its normal practice of not commenting on its finances, saying rumours it was owed millions of dollars were "not right''.

You can't be serious? Qube and Aurizon wouldn't give a tinker's toss about some of the more marginal traffics that El Zorro deal with.

True Barrington, and if the big boys feel insecure that just get out the cheque book and buy out the smaller (more honest) competitor, remember that PN substantively bought out Freight Australia for it's expertise handling smaller specialist contracts................then instantly stamped the PN way on those contracts. There are many other instances as well.

Depends on your point of view. Was FAs parent company desperate for cash and happy to throw the business at any company that had some money? Bag PN if you have to, but FA was sold for some reason. I'd love to see logs, Friskies and all the rest on rail but they aren't and last time I checked PN seemed to be making a decent profit without them. Servicing customers, big and small requires a substantial and ongoing investment. Does this sound like Australia in 2013?

It is confirmed that El Zorro had lost the Iluka contract to PN, G531-536-537 headed west a couple of days ago. Several crew from El Zorro around that area have moved to PN as well.

G531-G536 are now at Portland. G537 is at Murtoa so looks like PN are mobilising their resources for the Illuka traffic.

reference was posted on facebook. On the face of it, the end may be shortly to arrive for El Zorro, after much debate. Perhaps loss of recent contracts has been the kicker.
A search on the ASIC website for EL Zorro returns, among other things references to document 028506603 "Notification of Application to Wind Up Company Under S. 459p, 462 or 464 (519G)" dated 21/5 and document 028259811 "Notice of Resignation or Removal of Auditor Resignation Of Auditor (315A)"
Also posted that their AWB1 grain rake is stabled until further notice. One would imagine the others are as well.
Sad day perhaps for a lot of rail workers and their families.
