NRE Introduces More Multi Engine N-ViroMotive Locomotives into Australia
The US based locomotive manufacturer and supplier, National Railway Equipment Company (NRE), is pleased to announce that it has won a contract to supply seven Multi Engine N-ViroMotive locomotives to Australian rail operator, Pacific National, an operating division of Asciano Limited, for operation in the BlueScope Port Kembla Steelworks.
The supply contract to Pacific National expands NRE’s introduction of new technology N-ViroMotive locomotives to the Australian Rail industry and provides operationally efficient, reduced fuel use, flexible, quiet technology to traditional locomotive operations.
The new NRE N-ViroMotive units will increase safety, comfort and efficiency while substantially reducing the carbon footprint, noise and emissions in rail operations
The N-ViroMotive locomotives are due to begin arriving in Australia in mid-2014.
In keeping with NRE’s strategic direction for a world based, flexible, environmentally friendly design, NRE was able to offer to Pacific National a locomotive that meets stringent local conditions and specific operational requirements for the Port Kembla Steelworks. These locomotives share the same gen sets, control system and other critical key components with the NRE Australian “Regional Rail Strategy” based 1200 Class locomotives supplied into Australia in May 2013.
This order will bring the number of NRE Locomotives in Australia to more than 20, with additional units nearing completion for expected delivery to Australia during the remaining 2013.
