3265's Boiler Inspection

Hi Everyone,

After the Sydney Great Train Weekend during the June Long Weekend, the Powerhouse Museum's Steam Locomotive 3265 has been undergoing an annual boiler inspection. Once this is completed, a steam test will be done. Once the boiler has been boxed up, rail staff will then turn their attention to complete the work on the running gear. This consists of weighing and setting up of the locomotive's suspension of the valve timing. Rail staff will also conduct a full annual inspection prior to the locomotive being available for service.

Suspension of the valve timing......

You mean set the valve timing, which yes is quite a bit off at the moment.

I wonder when 3265 will return to service after it's boiler inspection.

Setting deadlines for overhauls etc, especially when they are so early on in the project is only going to lead to one thing....missed deadlines.

Best bet, keep your ear to the ground and wait, or perhaps if you live locally head up there and lend a hand.

Just got the latest edition of Roundhouse from the RTM. It says some of the tasks that have been undertaken include replacement of cracked fire grate, firebox repairs, replacement of superheater element, resealing of chimney, overhaul of regulator valve, overhaul of safety valves, replacement of several washout plugs, casting a new brick arch, removal and resetting of valves, cleaning interior of the tender, repairs to hydrostatic lubricator and overhaul of the steam turret stop valve. It also says that the discovery of extra work has slowed progress but hope to have the locomotive back in service in the near future.

Hence the point that Archer so correctly made.
