Well maybe before I was but I would like to think this is more realistic considering engineer signal testing is underway and the driver testing will probably begin next week for the next 2-3 weeks. Final week of November or the first week of December I think is very likely at this point the line reopens.

It should be noted that the first week in December constitutes a delay beyond the current stated delay...
  Halo Chief Train Controller

It seems platforms 3 and 4 will be sparked after all, as they were all fenced off today. Also at ARS the new escalators have arrived, not ready though yet.

Also for the wire-watches, Adelaide yard now has its first wires!!!
From the new medical institute, we have earth and return wires. the earth wire has gone as far as mile end, and the return wire currently stops at the Greenhill road bridge.

Two trains were parked in platforms 1 and 2 with no destination shown, maybe test trains, or something else?

I hear that a live spark will be running to Brighton tomorrow for testing, probably starting off late afternoon. Presumably will be slow with platform clearances, electrical testing etc.
Overhead was energised as far as Hove at the weekend, I hear. Next train apparently on the way.

… and not good news for transport during the Test Match if that turns out to be the first week of trying to run a full service in real life conditions.

Have they taken the tiger tails off the contact wire at Hove LX?

A delayed report from wire-watching on Friday.  Cantenary and contact run out from E of Marion to Sturt Bridge on both lines.  The gantry erection at Goodwood Station was completed on Thursday night.  This almost completes the mast erection work, apart from a couple SW of Fairfax Ave.

I hope they get it done by then, I intend to use it if they have.

It might be an artefact of Railpage being off-line for a week but it seems like it's all gone ahead in leaps and bounds recently.  I've tried looking for photos of the Adelaide yard/station but no success although I'd imagine DPTI will post some soon; if anyone cares to post any photos it would be greatly appreciated.  I've been looking forward to seeing what the station/inner city line actually looks like with wires.  Shame the trains themselves are apparently running so behind but oh well, they'll get there eventually.

This does surprise me a bit I didnt think they would want the electric trains going past Noarlunga till Feb but it does make sense since another large section of the line is now energized and there are currently no passenger services on the line yet so its pretty much a golden opportunity to test an electric train to Brighton tomorrow.

Gunzels will be out in full force tomorrow thats for sure
  Halo Chief Train Controller

Also noticed some major long wire supports in the ARS yards today.

I haven't been able to take photos in ARS, way too dark. Photos through train windows are pretty rotten. I may try a walk down North tce and see what I can shoot from there over the next few days.

4001 just passed through Marino Rocks on up track towards Brighton at 2:05pm. Will add a photo in a moment.

G'afternoon All,

Having lived at Marion Rocks for the first 30 years of my life, and my mother still does after 67 years, we are both excited by the arrival of the electric trains.

Thank you very much for posting this photo. We can hardly believe that they are on the way. We have seen the whole gauntlet of locomotives over this line (steam in the 1940s and 1950s, redhens from the 1960s through to the 3000 class in the 1980s), and now electrics.

Once again, thanks for the photo.

What's under the wires?  Some more photos from today's significant event.

Should this thread now be renamed Noarlunga Line Startup?!

1. 4001 inching through Noarlunga Centre

2. Approaching Chrysler Rd, Lonsdale

3. Paused at Seacliff

4. Leaving Brighton for home

62430 and Davida62, thanks for the great shots of that historic event. It's be a long time coming but great to see it all coming together at last. Perhaps a new thread should be started on the actual start-up as suggested; according to the DPTI link posted by filmfanatic the line is actually complete now - the electric start-up is the only remaining task.

Anyone got an update on the progress of wires? Especially between Marion and Oaklands (Morphett Road)

There is possibly a EM-30 Test Run being done early tomorrow morning, and we might even have a Railcar Test Run being done tomorrow
morning after the EM-30 has been out and back (both Friday 15thNov), but as we know, things are subject to change without notice.

Some observations from the past few days.

Cable ducting was going in just N of Tonsley Jn.  Could be power feeds to the switching cabin.  Electical installation around the cabin have been taking place for past 2-3 weeks.  Mesh screens have been fitted between the support pillars under the cabin.

Foundation work for electrification masts has is taking place on the doubled section of Tonsley branch.  Foundations for ped crossing maze on the branch from Ascot Park to Charles St are progressing.

Catenary on both lines Sturt Bridge to Oaklands Stn await contact wire.

TSR signs have been appearing around Marion and Sturt Bridge. A 20 applies thru Marion but interestingly a 110 permanent restriction has also appeared on the down just before Marion.

Automatic gates have now been installed at Fairfax Ave, Victoria St and Sturt Bridge ped crossings.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is EM-30?

I saw the overhead inspection vehicle here in Melbourne the other day operating along the Ringwood line and it reminded me that they will probably need a similar vehicle in Adelaide for the same purpose. Is that was EM-30 is?
