New QUBE SQEF and SQEY container wagons

      EFB5800 Chief Train Controller

    Location: On my office roof.
    More SQEFs and SQEYs arrived at Carrington this morning. AAL Pusan docked around 09:00 with 26 wagons visible on the deck. Some are stacks of an F on a Y, but most seem to be 2 Fs stacked. The bottom ones appear to have BG axles, so movement will be interesting.

    PS, forgot to say, the highest number visible on a SQEF was 00050 and 00087 on a SQEY.

    The first of the SQEFs delivered were BG. I can only say, from looking at photos I took from various angles, that I'm 99% sure the latest SQEFs that are stacked on an SQEY are BG. The SQEFs that are stacked together in pairs seem to look BG and appear to have the BG axles with straight ends suitable for gauge narrowing. Time will soon tell when they are somehow transported from the wharf, unfortunately I won't be in the area for a few days to see.

    There are lot of SQEY and/or SQEFs stored at the Austrak yard at Somerton at the moment. Most likely all of those that haven't entered service yet.

    And they won't be going into service until Metro gives clearance for 23.5 tonne axle loads from Packenham to Dynon.

    There are 14 SQEF wagons in service now and the other 16 will be brought into Service hopefully by the end of the week.

    The MC1/CM1 train is already big, will these wagons replace some of the current wagons or is this an augmentation?

    What appears to be the batch that arrived a few weeks ago, is sitting in Broadmeadow yard. That's number 90 at the bottom, presumably the last of the order.

    The BG wagons were cleared out of Somerton this morning for the Deniliquin rice train this week. This leaves only two SQEY wagons left and ready for the next batch to arrive later this week.
