Stations working north from Hobart;

Main South Line:
Hobart (original TMLR sandstone station);
Botanical Gardens (now the signal-box at TTMS Glenorchy);
Newtown (down side) (TTMS station, Glenorchy);
Granton

D.V. Line:
Boyer;
New Norfolk;
Westerway;
Sharpes Siding

M.S. Line (cont.)
Rekuna;
Colebrook;
Parattah;
??Ross?? (Not sure - is that still in existence??)
Conara Junction

Fingal Line:
Tullochgorum (?)
Fingal;
St. Marys.

M.S. Line (cont.)
Western Junction
East Tamar Junction.

Platforms - with regard to the Hobart suburban, it is easier to list those that are missing, rather than those still in existence.
Now gone are:
Hobart Terminal;
Macquarie St;
Corneilian Bay (down);
Sunderland St;
Lutana;
Abattoirs;
Showgrounds;
Elwick;
Glenorchy;
Montrose (down);
Rosetta (down);
Berriedale (down);
Chigwell (down);
Claremont;
Bilton St.;
Brighton.

Stations such as Sunderland St & Lutana were timber platforms. Glenorchy disappeared under KGV Drive (although the old goods platform survives). Claremont & Bilton St. Stn. disappeared under the extension of Box Hill Rd to join Bilton St. and housing. Brighton vanished with the re-alignment of the main South Line onto the new Jordan River bridge. A lot of the down platforms from some of the smaller suburban stations disappeared under the bike track.

Quite a few of the existing platforms are getting harder to discern as the track bed has risen on new ballast to the point of getting close to burying them.

I heard this somewhere but I don't know which house it is in Cambridge. Does anyone have the address?

And also isn't the shed at the BP Petrol station in Cambridge an old Railway shed?

The station building (now a house) is in its original location in the station yard on the platform. Travelling from Hobart on the old Sorell road (not the new highway) you will find the road junction with the road to Richmond on the left. Just beyond this junction on the right hand side of the old  main road is a short road leading to the station yard. The original goods yard gate is there, and well maintained by the current owners of the house.

Yes the BP service station is the old Cambridge goods shed, but has obviously been moved. It was originally opposite the station building.

There is a good book which I would highly recommend published by the Bellerive Historical Society. It is called the Bellerive to Sorell Railway Revisited. Hopefully it is still available. Google Bellerive Historical Society for details.

Further to my previous post, Cambridge station is in Rose Street, Cambridge. It is on the right hand side of Rose Street when approaching from Cambridge Road. Providing the white gate is still there, you should have no difficulty identifying it, as Rose Street is a very short street.

There is a photograph of it about half-way down this web page:

If you are thinking what is this all about,

I'm wondering what passenger facilities are still in place if heritage trains ever are allowed to take to the tracks again.

What's  left between Burnie and Rosebery?

Does anyone have anyinformation/photos of Brighton Station? I assume there must have been an important station linked to the Brighton Army Barracks.

Brighton was a fairly important station, however it had nothing to do with the Brighton Army Barracks, as the Barracks was nowhere near it. The station was originally significant as the junction station for the Brighton - Apsley line, then later as the northern limit of the Hobart suburban network.

AFAIR It was a fairly large weatherboard building on an island platform. The platform remained intact (though increasingly buried by the rising trackbed alongside it) until the relatively recent re-alignment of the MS Line to cross the new concrete Jordan River Bridge.

As evidenced by the size of the real estate, the yard was fairly substantial as well. Of course, it still has the distinction of retaining one of the last intact remaining steam loco water tanks on site.

Was also one of the TMLR chain of stations that were equipped with the patented William Dobey Water Softening Equipment for their steam locomotives.
