I've debated responding to this question and decided that I should.
I went this morning and was disappointed. The exhibition was in a much smaller hall than previously and I was horrified to find that of the 36 stands only 10 were layouts, two of these layouts were no shows. The remainder were stalls selling something while there were the show competition and model building stands.
I walked around when the show was far from busy but found myself bumping into people despite the lower volume of attendees. The cramped space made it next to impossible to get any decent views of the few layouts that were there.
I was in and out in 10 minutes, that's 1 dollar a minute.
Not what I was expecting.
Really sorry you were disappointed
We really did try our best to please you. Unfortunately we lost two layouts due to unforeseen circumstances. The organizers had three back up layouts, unfortunately none of the three layouts did fit the two vacant spaces. It should be said that the notice was very late.
I spent most of the day chatting to people coming and going. I think I spoke to several hundreds, and I asked every one, how they found it. I never got any really negative replies. Yes we all wanted more layouts but the quality of those we had was pretty good.
The traders were all very pleased with our new venue and appeared happy with their sales.
I got to tell you all I only saw smiley faces, everywhere but I know we had issues with directing people around the rabbit warren they call Latrobe University. I am fairly positive that the students waste their first year fully, learning navigation skills, on how to get between the car parks and their lecture halls.
We have learned a hell of a lot from day 1, we can improve and we will.
I want you all to know that we are only a very tiny club, about to lose our club rooms as the greedy bureaucrats, kick all us "freeloaders" out of their vacant buildings so that they might get bulldozed so our city land developers can rip us all off again for their own short term gains. 31 members can turn up and do the best they can whilst also dismantling their huge layout and arranging storage . Also finding new accomadations with the help of VicTracks and a hell of a lot of work from our committee.
As a country cousin who only gets to visit the club once or twice a year, I believe the Club did a good job. Again I am truly sorry if some did not think it was good enough
But I truly believe you should not be discouraged from coming. Just meeting all your friends there and chatting is always the best part of coming to Australia's best modellers exhibition. Yes were here for modellers and modellers of Australian outline
