Would've been 1901, as it's the only one still around. They did some driver tuition to the Port and Acacia Ridge.

The UP line from Wynnum North Station to the Glenora St Xing and the other side of the Wynnum North Xing is about to see extensive work soon.

The Up rails from this crossing to Wynnum platform were replaced during the last weekend closure a few months, but on wooden sleepers. No concrete sleepers have been left on this short section.
I note the date stamped on the UP rail at this crossing is 1978. The Wynnum North Xing has no paintwork on it. The track in both directions through Wynnum North platform itself is already on concrete sleepers and is dated 2003.

No new rails have been unloaded as yet where the new concrete sleepers are piled up, but given the date of the rails in that area, I presume these will too be replaced.

There has been no notification in the mail yet of works to be performed, but with a long weekend coming up this seems as a good time as any.

On a lighter note I hope if new welded rail is installed the noisy rail joint right outside our window is eliminated. Although no freights use the line past Lytton Junction we have movements for 21 hours a day ( 6 days ).

They'll be doing some resleepering between Lytton Junction and Lindum/Hemmant as seen with all the concrete sleepers at LJ. By the looks of they'll be putting in new rail at Wynnum too.

This weekends closure Roma St to Corinda/Yeerongpilly/Murrarie will also see points and a diamond crossing being replaced with new sleepers and rail (the parts have been sitting near the work hut in at Roma St fork.

Hymie is an interesting vehicle to drive. Much more like a normal road vehicle than a loco. I was made aware when shown how to drive it, of the need to differentiate between the vigi and the parking brake buttons, which sit side by side on the dashboard. Apparently the parking brake has been hit by mistake on a few occasions, making for a fun ride for the occupants.

07.25 9255 4048/2190D hauling 42 wagons down the Townsville Jetty branch from Mt Isa. 2190D was operating in the previously frowned upon trailing position to an AC traction loco
