THE Border’s transport, construction and manufacturing industries yesterday discovered how they could connect with the $300 million Melbourne to Brisbane inland rail project.

ARTC communication and engagement manager Kirsty O’Connell gave a 35-minute presentation on the benefits of the project during a transport infrastructure conference in Albury.

The inland rail project, which will pass by the Ettamogah Rail Hub, will enable a more efficient way of transporting freight along Australia’s east coast.

The inland rail link is not planned to transit Albury.  Wasn't the plan to go through Shepparton?

How is the Dubbo route available today ?

The word locally is the committee for inland rail has not yet decided on the actual route out of Victoria.

The route is available today from Melbourne to Dubbo - via Cootamundra and Parkes. It has been since standard gauge reached Melbourne. There's also the long way round via Sydney and Orange and the maybe way via Cowra and Blayney (if that line is ever reopened).

This Is just Government hired consultants going around In circles, sucking up scare taxpayer funds, for next to nothing In return !

Going via Tocumwal would cost a bomb, In new rail links and totally rebuilt rail lines (maybe one day, when winnable local freight revenue offsets the capital and maintenance costs of the additional route)

- Govt has spent a large sum and continues to do so on the dual NE SG, so that's the route for the Inland.
- Govt has also spent a considerable sum on passing lanes to Coota, so that's the route for the Inland.
- Govt has recently spent more than a few bucks upgrading the route to Parks via Forbes, so guess where the Inland is going.
- Govt is spending additional money on the route to Moree and Nth Start, again guess where the Inland is going.
- Govt put in a 3rd rail from Acacia Ridge to Bromolton, so .....
- There is a substantial amount of coal in and around the Toowoomba region, so......

From the reports I've seen I don't think there is much doubt left on where the Inland is going apart from maybe some fine tuning of the Greenfield trackage.

While there is plenty of opportunity to improve on the existing alignments, the govts focus will be to join the dots ASAP and worry about these later or offer private investment options. ie private companies offered the chance to build diversions that offer operators considerable savings and earn access fees for that section as income. But private investment has proven a failure at getting the Inland built, so the feds will need to fork out.
