Apologies for our disappearance yesterday. Our production VMWare server ran out of disk space due to our vmdk snapshots taking up more space than budgeted for.

If VMWARE has run out of disk caused by snapshots then it can take a while to fix. Why? Because vmware needs to take all the snapshots and combine with into the guest which if there is a lot of data hours and hours.Snapshots are not adequate backups. If they're using snapshots as backups, there's a problem.
Snapshots as backups are fine. Anything can be a backup, as long as it's restorable and stored on a different disk/array/server/gizmo.
Why?Compared to the alternatives (yes, I've dealt with a Hyper-V Cluster at TAFE)...
