For the first time in ten years, Metropolitan-Vickers XA 1405 was started up. Even after being dormant for a decade she started up first time!

That's fantastic! I'm sure it took a lot of work, so congrats to all concerned.

Just one question... is it suposed to sound like the 40 year old Victa mower we used to keep the growth on the back hill under control when I was a child?

Good stuff I imagine this loco is being re-activated for a purpose: what is it?

No doubt the culmination of a lot of work but certainly less than spectacular.

A lot of work certainly has gone in by dedicated volunteers. It's the culmination of work done when possible over a couple of months. Mind you, when she was last shut down 10 years ago she was a very operational locomotive. Also I can say she sounds a lot better in person, all I had to record with was my phone so the sound isn't brilliant. The nickname the XA's have is "Hummingbirds" they have a unique sound from a Crossley HST V8.

Currently the purpose is just to have her running for now, though hopefully more in the future.

I honestly expected a lot more smoke too! The class were renowned for being very smokey (and spitting oil everywhere) but she started up amazingly clean!
