While here in Australia we have heat WOLOs and buckling lines, in Chicago the opposite is true in a big cold snap:

I assume this refers to point heaters which are standard in the UK. They were not too popular in the early days because manually keeping points clear was good money! They are just for keeping the moving blades and rods etc moving instead of icing up. I would guess propane or similar for the flames.

Routine course of action in the USA and not newsworthy, but I would think that any pro-rail person on here would be quite appreciative of any media attention showing that rail is taking care of business rather than dismissive.
