I was kind of waiting for an invitation rather than just write way a boring piece that could be seen as gloating by some...thanks for asking.
Consider yourself invited; more please Mike
Suggest new thread with its own title so as to reserve this original thread for the Townsville Mt Isa route, please.

Mike, I am interested in the your northern European trip reports as well, and a separate thread will help find them.

Cheers Peter Cokley

Thanks and enjoyed the various detailed daily reports yesterday.

The question that has not been answered is was a sleeping car and a lounge car with buffet facilities added to the consist for the Governor General and his party as the Inlander currently has no sleeping car or dining facilities.

I cannot categorically say additional carriages were not added, but I don't believe any were. For the three hour journey in the early evening additional sleeping and dining facilities weren't exactly needed. And considering the entourage was visiting an area devastated by the worst flooding in recorded history, showing up with an additional sleeping or dining car that locals are never able to use would have been in extremely poor taste to the members of the impacted communities.

Having met General and Mrs Hurley when they visited our little town late last year, I believe that they would not have expected any special provisions for that length of journey. They seem to have a particular empathy for struggling country communities.
