Thanks for the thoughts & info. I'm hoping to buy the new book on NSW goods stock, but retirement income coupled with recent surgery costs (so much for being in a health fund all these years...) make it a bit problematic at the moment.
I seem to remember an article in a Byways reminiscing about operations in the Binnaway- Gwabegar area mentioning they had a couple of SFs to use as spacer wagons in the timber traffic, they could've been in Departmental stock?
I cannot remember the code but there were 4 wheel flat wagons in steam days and used as overhang wagons, between longer loaded flat wagons, I don't recollect them ever being on 4 wheel flats though, usually with bogie MLE types in pole traffic, but the spacer wagon for those were more often than not also a bogie flat.
I have photo's of such pole traffic that I scanned from slides that are now somewhere out in cyberspace with around 3 other folders.
