I'd still vote for her because it gets up the nose of every single chardonnay leftie that I know. LIKE YOU.
What have you got against chardonnay, Don? Don't you right-wingers drink it?
Yeah see I'm not sure if I can identify with that label - maybe I can go to one of Bill Shorten's transition clinics and have a chat about it because I don't really identify with either label.
I'm really very working class despite having a few letters after my name - I can trace my largely Anglo Aussie-born heritage back to the 19th century and they were all pretty working class; it might not surprise you to hear that my family and ancestry are not inclined to being business-people or professionals. They were all pretty much unskilled or semi-skilled working people who held jobs in traditional working class jobs.
The bottom half have been totally screwed by the Labor neo-Thatcherite Hawke/Keating 13 years of office and we've never recovered from it. It certainly continued under Howard but that's a Liberal government - you expect them to screw the working class - or at least you should know this when you vote for them.
In 2019 the blow-back from Hawke/Keating is the entire nation is mired in debt (private and public), home ownership is a post WWII lows and private sector wages haven't outpaced inflation since 2011. And they wonder why people aren't spending money - the incredibly tough wage controls put in by Hawke in Accord I & II kept wages subdued but corporate Australia has never had it so good. Look at the record unbroken profits of the Big Four banks over 25 plus years - for many years the very most profitable businesses per capita on the face of the planet - that should show you that something is wrong. The poor old Aussie labour force was made to compete against cut-price overseas labour directly but big businesses like the banks enjoyed lots of protection and government largess eg Kevin Rudd's covered bond bail-out and a regulatory regime that favored them.
The Labor Party is an abject failure, they're consistently failed (what's left of) the working class for the last thirty-five years with the Thatcherite agenda and I can't possibly vote for them. They're not sorry at all for the damage that they've done and frankly they have nothing to offer except more pandering to minorities and more destruction of jobs via lop-sided trade deals and even more totally un-affordable green-tinged rubbish. I mean who the buggery-blazes was supposed to pay for Shorten's ridiculous brain fart to convert the entire country to a hundred percent 'renewables' by 2030 or when-ever it was. At four hundred billion even more expensive than the Liberal disaster of the submarines @ two-fifty billion - what a brainless, ridiculous thing to even propose. We're broke now - who pays?
For me to have to vote Labor again (as I have in the distant past) I would have to hear a solid repudiation of the Hawke/Keating era as the job-destroying pro-business privatising agenda that it was. Instead they continue to venerate Keating (in particular) like he was some kind of a benevolent genius who made life better for everyone at every level of society. I don't have enough swear words when they do that, especially at their self-congratulatory rallies where they wheel him out and get him to wave to the faithful.
Yuck.
