Welcome to Trump town

I think the Democrat strategy is to reveal how Trump has been behaving like a Mafia don in the hope that more moderate Republican voters will not support him in 2020.
This may or may not work given the extent of bitterness in the US political divide.
You do wonder what wrongdoing or crime it would take for him to lose that support. For Trump's base he can do no wrong and many moderate Republicans benefit from their vote.
This is not just a US phenomena as politics globally is becoming more polarised than ever. Maybe a Bloomberg vs Trump battle of the $$$ is just what the election needs.

Trump v Bloomberg will provide economic stimulus in its own right. Advertising.

Nancy Pelosi has a big tanty today at the very suggestion that her hatred of Donald Trump is motivating the impeachment proceedings - ABC.

"I was raised in a Catholic house, and we don't hate anybody," she said, raising her voice and turning to the reporter, plainly furious, with her finger extended in a lecture.

"I was raised in a way that was a heart full of love and I prayed for the President every day. And I still pray for the President."

The reporter said he was just reiterating one of the Republican talking points.

Republicans, led by Mr Trump himself, have accused the Democrats of pursuing impeachment to undo the election or carry out a coup d'etat or otherwise act on personal animus.

Ms Pelosi took the opportunity to refute that.

"Let me just say this: I think the President is a coward when it comes to helping kids who are afraid of gun violence. I think he's cruel when he doesn't help our DREAMers. I think he's in denial about the climate crisis," she said.

Well he thinks the 'climate crisis' is a load of rubbish like a lot of us do. And I think you do really hate President Trump with a deep, seething, illogical hatred.

Trump's America is booming -

  • 1,600 new jobs added each day
  • Unemployment fallen to 3.5%
  • Average hourly wages up 3% on the same time last year
  • Manufacturing jobs in particular stage a strong rebound.
No wonder the Demmy-crats are floundering, they have no idea how to attack Trump other than trying to tip him out of office. His promise to reinvigorate working-class jobs has largely been fulfilled.

We need someone like that here - someone who will put our nation's interests (and that of our workers) ahead of "free trade" rubbish and precarious low-pay service industry jobs.

Google is your friend.

The part about wages going up by 3% is astonishing - obviously there's increasing demand for labour in the United States. Unlike here where real wages haven't grown since 2011.

@don_dunstan Very good unemployment figures for Trump. Unemployment figures have been going down and the US economy has been expanding for 11 straight years. That's right Trump did inherit a much better economy than Obama did.

Sorry it should be 7 straight years. Obamas stimulus policy did much to ward off the effects of the global crash. Had Trump experienced that he would have probably crapped his pants.

Hello Michael, welcome back. Good that we're back to disagreeing again, that feels so much more homely.

The fact is the Trumpster promised jobs for the rust-belt states and he seems to be delivering somewhat. Did you notice my posting from another thread about China now ordering private and public sector to stop using all 'foreign' software and hardware by 2022? China is conducting a trade war against the rest of us anyway, why not take action against their unfair trade practices by imposing tariffs?

I've come to love the belligerence and honesty the man exudes in comparison to his predecessors. He called Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau "two-faced" and despite spoiling the joke by crowing about it (privately) afterwards it was indeed pretty funny calling out that smug Francophile. He says unflattering things about everyone and calls them out - good. He's been trying to extricate the US from yet-another Hillary/Obama disaster in Syria - trying to undo just some of the damage of past Presidential-initiated wars. Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan etc still remain on the list.

Really Don. Donald Trump honest? If you call bad mouthing anyone who disagrees with him honest then OK. That man cant even lie straight in bed.

Yeah why dont you bring up Hillary and Obamas foreign policy. I have already said his foreign policy was terrible ad nauseam. His home policies were sound not least because he brought affordable health care to many who just would not have it.

Him pulling out of Syria has nothing to do with him fixing foreign policy and everything to do with appeasing Erdogan and Putin. The mans a two bit two faced grifter who loves to tweet.

Hey Michael -
  • Trump has been in office for nearly three years and has NOT started a war with disastrous consequences for the rest of the world. The last President who successfully got the United States out of a war of foreign occupation it couldn't possibly win was Richard Milhous Nixon.
  • Hilary let both Libya and Syria collapse into lawlessness and perpetual civil war through inaction, deliberate arming of the proponents and refusing to consider any reasonable deal that led to peace. How many interminable wars has Trump started again? Getting out of Syria is about getting out of Syria, so they have one less war to fight.
You said nothing about the generation of jobs for the traditional working class, about taking on unfair trade practices etc etc.

@don_dunstan I do not know what point you are trying to make about Hillary Clinton's foreign policy. I have already said numerous times that it was terrible. I do not know how many times I have to say I agree with you.

However, Simply pulling out of the Northern border with Turkey has not brought about peace has it Don. It has simply led to the massacre of Kurdish rebels by Turkish forces. Many Republicans are against the withdrawal. When your biggest supporter of the withdrawal is Rand Paul you know you are in trouble.

Yeah like all those coal jobs he said that were coming back. They are not.

So Much for the Deep State Plot Against Donald Trump

Inspector general Michael Horowitz's report shows that the FBI's investigation of ties between Russia and the Trump campaign was both justified and without political bias.

So Donald Trump has officially been just the 3rd President to be impeached, so now a trial will happen in the Senate, but, because the Republicans own the Senate, nothing will happen, a big yawn fest.....

Beat me to it, just saw it on the TV. Agreed, nothing will happen, if anything he'll get more popular as a result of this. The people who voted for him will be furious at the Demmy-crats.

It will be interesting to see in the midst of all this whether or not the US/China FTA is concluded... seems highly unlikely in my opinion. Not the least of which is the problem that China would have to agree to buy some very large amounts of US agricultural produce and manufactures which would lead to the USA being the imported produce of preference. Not sure where that would leave us as we do compete with the USA on things like wheat and soybeans.

But it seems really unlikely that the Chinese Politburo would agree to the other conditions related to theft of intellectual property, free-trade without having to have a Chinese equal partner and other internal legal reforms. Trump isn't asking for anything that the Chinese didn't already agree to when they joined the World Trade Organisation in 2001, it's just that they haven't followed through with most of what they agreed-to some 18 years later.

I am not convinced that we compete with the US on soybeans, Don.

Sure they grow and export soybeans, and so do we, but I am not convinced we are competition - they wipe the floor with us on soybeans.

Yeah probably right Aaron - maybe not soy - but nevertheless if the Chinese sign a preferential trade deal with the USA then there's bound to be losers. Beef, mutton, barley, wine, legumes, etc are among our top agricultural exports to China - if they agree to buy US-origin first then we could be in trouble, that export market is worth $12 billion.

Opinion polls have bounced for Trump too, the majority of Americans don't want him impeached and his approval rating has increased. These Demmy-crats are on a hiding to nothing.

And isn't that sad. Anyway more evidence of where they've become.
The Republican-controlled Senate quietly cut the phrase "white nationalist" from a measure in the National Defense Authorization Act, which was intended to explicitly address the threat of white nationalists in the military

It wasn’t the republican controlled senate that cut that phrase, I read this elsewhere, the amendment was passed BIPARTISAN in both houses.

Big Smile all round then Razz
It was slipped in as part of the National Defense Authorization Act. A political ploy because the Democrats would have to reject the entire Act which funds the US Military. Just how well would that play to the Republican base!

Maybe it's not what people have become but what they always were.

Where are they going to find another impulsive, straight talking populist like him? I know a lot of people here will not agree with that description but in particular on China he's a hundred percent right - someone should have done what he's doing ages ago. There's no point whatsoever in signing these agreements if they're not enforced.
