Bustitutions on some Bendigo services this morning now.
Yes, Dn Swanners delayed 18 mins due to the "track fault", 09.14 Dn not stopping at Clarkefield / Riddells either and the 10.20 Dn canned.

So no Down services have stopped at Clarkie or Riddells this morning.

Weirderer and weirderer this is, must be a pretty major fault if it has taken more than 24 hours to fix so far. It's not like V/Line don't have crews or equipment in the area Laughing

Fully expecting my afternoon Up counter peak service to be bustituted too.......

12.28 Bendigo > SC canned
13.20 SC > Eaglehawk canned
14.20 Epsom > SC terminating at Gizzy (!)
15.47 Eaglehawk > SC (yep, the one that I was going to take) canned

More to follow I'm sure from this sorry excuse for a train service. What a great start to the weekend!!!!!!!

***edit*** Oh and according to the V/Line website this lot constitutes a minor delay.......

Now on a coach to Southern Cross after the 17.06 ex Castlemaine was also canned along with at least one more Down service. At that point I decided to wander down to the station to check out the situation and there was a half empty coach waiting there to run the 16.22 ex CME so I jumped on.

Lots of unhappy pax milling around some of whom have had to weather this for 2 or 3 days.

The problems on the Bendigo line are beginning to sound like LX activation problems

https://www.bendigoadvertiser.com.au/story/6639003/planning-on-taking-a-train-to-or-from-bendigo-this-evening-read-this-first/

My coach driver said that he saw a lot of activity around one of the dirt crossings between Clarkefield and Goonawarra.

As per the article whatever it is only one track is affected hence the situation of some trains running and others cancelled.
  potatoinmymouth Chief Commissioner

Short warning time on the East line at one of the crossings, apparently. Could be contamination or profile related.

Coming home tonight on the 16:25 from Southern Cross the up Swan Hill (N+N set) was waiting on the down side of Sunbury on the east track whilst we passed it on the west . Also a couple of techs working in a equipment hut at Clarkefield. To me this seems to indicate signalling issues of some sort and not an issue with the 'track'.

Which leads to the question as to why in some messages from V/Line the problem was referred to as an 'obstruction' or a 'track fault' when the accumulated evidence here points to a signalling (including level crossings) issue and why has it taken so long to fix?

For whatever reason, V/Line have decided it is better to stick to stock phrases at all times and avoid the use of anything outside of those guidelines, and whoever gets whatever internal comms get sent has to interpret it and choose the stock phrase. It leads to a very interesting situation where Metro and V/Line might choose different stock phrases for the same issue.

It really is a shame that their communications to passengers are so poor, but it is not a surprise when you hear how shambolic their internal communications are. Last Saturday (15/2) I caught a V/Line train from Sunbury to Kyneton that was 40 minutes delayed. A driver was waiting at Sunbury for a down service to act as a pilot due to some issue in the Metropolitan area. His train hadn't arrived because the driver was waiting for him at Clarkefield. They had no way of getting in touch with each other, and had to communicate via the Metro station staff at Sunbury, and another V/Line conductor who just happened to turn up. It would almost be funny if it wasn't so ridiculous.

No trains again for a week making it almost 3 weeks in 5 we have been without trains in northeast Victoria.

This may be a backwards step for some, but with the hopeless reliability and frequent cancellations of the Melbourne - Albury V/Line service (driving many potential North East residents and visitors away from the service and onto the Hume) would It be practical to replace the Melbourne - Seymour SG leg with a BG pass (as like before 2008) and have a cross platform change at Seymour Station (SG shuttle train between Seymour and Albury)

My daughter came down from Albury yesterday.    Commented that the ride was a lot smoother on the  bus rather than the usual train trip.  Intends to use the bus from now on.

Things must be desperate or lazy at VLine these days. They sent VL77 to Echuca yesterday. That's one of those single toilet + thinly padded seat short distance commuter DMUs.... 3.5 hrs of hell.

An interesting thing I noticed today was that there were traffic controllers at Fitzgerald Rd, Adeer, Mt Derrimut Rd, Deer Park and Robinsons Rd, Ravenhall. There didn't seem to be anything wrong, nor TSRs in place.

is there a TSR on the East (old Up) track on the Bendigo line around Clarkefield after last week's LX activation fiasco? On an Up Velocity service and we have been at medium speed since just after Riddells and almost at Wildwood now
  Carnot Minister for Railways

The East track is now limited to 115kmh for VLos. That's because VLos are heavier than they originally were.

There is some sleeper replacement as well.  A 110kmh TSR exists at Riddells Creek on West track too atm.

Yes, there is an 80km/h TSR from KP59 (near the curve between Riddells Creek) and KP41 in the Sunbury cutting. I can't remember exactly what it is for but I 'think' its for consolidation of track work.

Thanks as always Jakar, makes sense as there were piles of sleepers and ballast everywhere through that section.

Same thing applies from down end of Elphi Tunnel to around Lodden Prison (122km post maybe?) due to the recent sleeper replacements.

On a V'locity into the big smoke tonight it felt like we were doing at least 130 down the bank. I was wondering if the recent trackwork through there had resulted in the lifting of those TSRs.

Swap you for an X'Trapolis? I'd love to ride VL77 on the Burnley group every day. Laughing

This morning's AM Down Swan Hill is gradually catching up to the timetable after departing 8 minutes late from Southern Cross.

I asked the connie what this morning's problem was as this is a pretty regular occurrence at the moment. Clearly taking me for an idiot with zero knowledge of rail* the reply came "the brakes had to be examined, you don't want to go anywhere without brakes do you?"

Er, the Train Examination is supposed to be done PRIOR to the scheduled departure time not after it....... And no, I didn't say anything but I think the look on my face may have said it all anyway.

* I may well be an idiot, I will leave that up to others to decide but I do know a little bit about railways and their operation Smile

Tonight's Up 16.34 service ex Epsom is really feeling the effect of the Bendigo Line singling north of Kyneton.

Scheduled to depart CME at 17.07 the service was delayed by a late running Down Echuca finally arriving into P2 around 14 minutes late. There we sat for another 5 or so minutes waiting to cross the next Down service.

Following that we crawled along through the speed restricted section to the tunnel after which we were once again hung out to dry on the loop at Elphinstone for yet another cross.

Now arriving into Malmsbury at 17.52 just over 30 minutes late. What a fine service indeed!

Yeah, performance figures for March will be terrible on Bgo line.

Also some fun at Epsom this afternoon with slippery tracks:

Yes, yes, I remember. It is just that it is getting harder to willingly suspend my disbelief....... Lost more time after Malmsbury, I reckon we'll be 40 minutes or more late into Footscrazy.

***edit, yep, 40 minutes late into Footscray***

Seymour line  Minor delay

The 18.22 SCS-Seymour train is currently delayed by 22 mins ex Southern Cross due to the late arrival of a previous service caused by a trespasser on the network. This service will also have no buffet between SCS and Kyneton.

[18:50 04/03]Delay The 18:02 Southern Cross - Albury train is delayed by approximately 32 minutes ex Moonee Ponds due to the late arrival of a previous service.  [18:43 04/03]
