Why act so shocked? Everyone saw something like this coming from a mile away. After all, these protests have been going on a fair while with all the idiots wanting to be re-colonised despite the majority of the population being fine with the 1 country, 2 systems policy. I guess thats what happens when you blow out of proportion a law designed to extradite murderers in the first place... (prepares for bashing)So, you obviously have no problem with "ascending Global superpower" locking up over a million Muslim Uyghurs into concentration camps and forcibly sterilizing the rest? What makes the CCP any different from the Nazis?
The chinese are doing their best to make themselves unpopular. That Doesn't matter when your the ascending Global superpower, you can do anything you like without major reprisal from anyone. oh, and boycotts? yeah right, dream on.
Now Now Carnot, would i do the same to 'I guess your fine with X or Y and Z?' to you? (i probably have at some point and i apologise)
Oh, to your surprise now the protest movement de-facto I'll express my honest opinion on it. I supported and endorse a fair few of their aims. I just think the entire issue got way more airtime in the west and was blown out of proportion with its scale and how rebellious it really was (looking at you reddit) and it being dubbed 'the revolution of our time'. Now for their aims i supported
-Universal suffrage, Understandable, as hong kong has a weird system that allows 3 quarters of its elected officials to be voted in directly by businesses.
-Enquiry into police brutality, Very fair
-Retracting the classification of protesters as rioters (they were not)
-amnesty for arrested protesters
All very reasonable I think you'd agree. I just think the Extradition bill reaction was a little overblown and now they've given the PRC an excuse to move in.
As for East Turkistan, I condemn that. Its de-facto the same stuff the Europeans did in the colonial era and its awful. There not even trying to hide whats happening there in their own press ffs. http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/2018-10/16/c_137535821.htm
