Inbound services on Cleveland restarted through Wynnum around 1330.  Here is a picture of the offending truck from an authorised post of our local State pollie.

Since the introduction of the NGR's there have been an increased number of noise complaints in the Brisbane area as their whistles are much louder than other classes.  The situation was highlighted on Current Affair a few months ago.

On the Cleveland line 4 consecutive stations have level crossings - Lindum, Wynnum North, Wynnum, Wynnum Central.  The named stations except Wynnum have the crossing at the immediate end of their platforms.   The Wynnum crossing is about 100 metres away.

Before entering the platforms there are "W" signs.  Stopping trains sound their whistles at these signs, stop at the platform then sound again on departure ( at the crossings ).

I have noticed in the past couple of weeks an "EXP" sign has added to the "W" signs approaching the platforms.  My guess is that stopping trains no longer have to sound their whistles prior to stopping, and only the expresses/empties need to do so.

Through Wynnum there are about 20 expresses/empties in both directions per weekday.

The "W" sign before the Glenora St crossing on the UP line between Wynnum North and Wynnum does not have an "EXP" added, making me think my thoughts might be correct.  Attached is a photo of these additions on the bi-di tracks before Wynnum North platform.....

The Pine Street bridge between Wynnum Central and Manly, at 2.8 metres  ( the other two in the Wynnum area being 2.2 metres and 1.9 metres )  claims another scalp today.

In my travels a couple of weeks later on NGR's I noticed the whole incident is being shown on the TV screens.  There are cameras either side of the bridge and also it seems a camera UNDER the bridge.

Nothing has changed since I moved into the area as a teenager in 1968, in fact nothing has changed since the rail line was constructed, probably!

Sunday timetable used on Cleveland line for 4 days from 25 to 28 Dec inc, but services only operating between Cleveland and Lindum. Busses the rest of the way to Town.  As the section is isolated for 4 days, to ensure reliability only 260 sets are being used.  As no NGR's are being used it also means most stations do not need to be staffed.  Three sets are being used for the services with a fourth kept spare at Manly.  My guess would be a daily swap with the spare to give each set a rest.

Tuesday - a working day, the Cleveland line still only seeing trains to Lindum and obviously still using the same four 260 sets as previously mentioned.

However to cater for 15 minute peak services the trains have been split and we are back to 3 car sets.

But in checking the Translink site there will be 15 minute services ALL DAY till after the evening peak.  This part is good as will help greatly the ongoing issues at Wynnum Central where pax loaded with shopping from the nearby shopping centre and library are locked off the platform when two trains pass on the current off peak timetable, and City bound pax have had to wait another 30 minutes.  At least this way 15 minutes is not too bad.

However all this extra convenience ends by tomorrow.

“We haven’t wasted a minute removing level crossings – with 44 already gone, this year we’ll remove a crossing on average every four weeks to improve travel, make our suburbs safer, and supporting thousands of local jobs,” said Allan. .....THIS IS MELBOURNE.
