Well Trump's antics basically just cost the Republicans control of the Senate. Madness.

I wonder if he will continue to dig his heels in at the White House?
Carnot
And the fact that Governor Brian Kemp chose a complete crook to replace Johnny Issakson. Loeffler (the lady conducts insider trading and who loves posing with white supremists like Chester Doles), got her butt handed to her.

G O O D.

If you want to listen to some supreme hypocrisy, one cannot think of a better example than Megan McCain.

Does anybody think that Trump actually believes his "We wuz robbed" mantra?

He makes Reagan look like an intellectual giant, and Nixon like a model of righteousness.

Kind of, yes. All the reading over the various sites I've done over the past few weeks seem to allude to he thinks his own smeg doesnt stink and nobody can ever tell him no.

I'm hearing that there will be big ramifications for Trump after today, there is talk of a possible another impeachment.

Nope.  There were genuine fears of this happening many many months ago.

And people still have the gall to support Donald Trump, this man should never ever have the opportunity to stand for office ever again! what happened this morning was an insult to free democracy! America is truly divided!

Are you really surprised why lots still support Trump, even though they have voted to make themselves demonstrably poorer.
You know the real reason why, attributed to not all but a significant proportion of his white voters.

I would disagree.  I think it was more out of voting for someone other than the DNC which represented an increasingly extremist identity politic and lunatic 'woke' policy direction.  No doubt race was a factor for many (Exhibit A - the wingnut Nationalism of Trumpism), but hardly the main one IMO.

Most of the GOP was playing identity politics the last few months to stoke the fear. A lot of the Georgia runoff election was the GOP sending a prerecorded message "They'll take your guns and mah immagrents" whille holding on to the $2000 stimulus while the Dems were using actual people to canvas what the issues were.

BTW

The 25th amendment may have been envoked and Pence might have control for the next two weeks now.

I wonder whether Trump has been spoiled as a child, followed by his experience as Big Boss at Trump Towers, and is incapable of accepting  that he can't have everything he wants.

Yep, agree that both sides play that game.

A highly plausible way that this could play out tbh:

Sorry Carnot. This is the US, founded on race. A significant proportion of Trump supporters voted because they do not believe that black and brown people are equal to whites, pure and simple. You are giving them far too much credit. They ain't that nuanced. The rise of the far-right is reaching worrying proportions with this president. Every single spokesmen for the Far-right loves this dude. Why? Well you work it out.

As for the Republican Party. They have been actively committing voter suppression in a number of states for years.

Identity politics and woke are words thrown up by the lunatic right. Can you name some woke and Identity Policies?

Hillary Clinton & Joe Biden are hardly a left wing progressives.

I want to give you all an update about what's happening at 4:45 PM AEDT.

The death toll from the raid has risen to 4. The extra 3 suffered medical emergencies. 52 people have been arrested so far.

The National Guard was brought in to push away all of the rioters to allow the session to resume.

Mike Pence came at around 12:00 PM AEDT. And are certifying all of the votes still as we speak. Biden is winning the vote at this time.

There are some from the Republican Party who have tried to stop the votes from being certified. But most Republicans are allowing it to pass, and let Democracy continue.

I'll update you all tonight for any new information that comes out. We are witnessing history. And it's going as fast as a bullet.

Thanks mate for the updates, I'm hearing that Trump may be impeached once more due to his incitement of today's violence, is that correct?

I find it strange that Our Don still hasn't been past to give a Mea Culpa for his previous support of Trump. I'm certainly willing to jump up there on the pedestral and tell all that I was deceived by the siren song of Trump, that the man has turned out not to be a fighter for America but a fighter for himself and nothing more. And now he has lead four innocents to their deaths.

We all knew that it would end badly for Trump. I don't think that anyone could have predicted that it would get anywhere near this bad, to the point that we have confederates getting further into Capitol Hill than they ever did in the civil war.

The effects of these antics, both by the invaders and by Trump (and his policies) will be felt for at least the next 20 years.

Wow you only just twigged? Some tried to tell y'all. Oh well better late than never. The fact that he hired Jared "Mannequin Kushner", Ivanka "Deer in Headlights" Trump and Donald "Dumbo" Trump Jr to prominent positions of power and getting rid of competent people like Gen Kelly and hiring complete useless butt munchers like Mike Pompeo, tells you all you need to know.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be no Silver Bullet. They will have challenges and failures, but if they want to truly move forward they must listen less corporate GOP lite Dems like Joe Manchin, and listen to grass roots Democrats like Cori Bush or they will run the risk of returning a Trumpite Republican in 4 years. Forget about cooperating with the GOP. Now they have the senate, forge their own path.

I am pi$$ed that only 50 have been arrested. No one wants to see anyone die. 4 dead is due to Trump and Trump alone. Can you imagine if it was BLM actually storming sitting congress and causing havoc in the Chambers. The National Guard would have been there and 200 + would have been shot dead.

The chosen one is too busy attacking the Bidens for Heinous crimes such as Plagiarism and having a Doctorate of Education.

I usually stay away from the lounge, but I needed to say this.

This isn't over. This will get much worse. If any action is taken to remove Trump from office before the 20th, his supporters will most likely double down on today's behaviour.

There is talk of invoking the 25th amendment and declare him unfit for office, I would be surprised if after everything else he has already done they decide this is the one that goes too far. Similarly there is talk of a 2nd impeachment. The last one took months to run through the process, I can't see a 2nd one being done fast enough to be effective, but then again, I'm not expert.

If he remains in office till the 20th, I honestly believe there will be serious charges laid against him shortly after Biden's inauguration, and this will spark more of what we have seen today.

I say that I believe it, maybe it is more of a case that I hope for it. Trump needs to be locked up. But that is only the beginning. All of those who have enabled him need to follow him in to the bin.

To see Mitch McConnell stand up today and say he was drawing a line in the sand was a complete joke. These clowns had the chance to rid their country of this fowl disease in 2019 when he was impeached, but they instead voted to keep him in office. They should all follow him straight to a federal prison.

To add to that, I did see on twitter some of what Donald Junior had to say at a rally in the lead up to the Georgia Run-offs, and him, Eric, Ivanka, Jared Kushner, they all need to get locked up too, otherwise, they will just take their father's place.
