Hamilton-Koroit line, Victoria: Locomotive Y129 heads a short train from Hamilton to Koroit between Penshurst and Hawkesdale in November 1974. Obviously, the sheep do not like to be disturbed by the train! Enjoy!

Here's a bit more useless info bevans, in about 1973/4 our very small regional school, Bulart actually if you want to locate that, just a couple of hundred yards through our paddock, were taken to Hamilton and with a heap of other regional schools, caught the train to Warrnambool, all bussed to Tower Hill volcanic reserve for a run around and look at things back to Warrnambool went the the cheese & butter factory there and trained it back to Hamilton... a big day for us quite young kids.

I vaguely remember parts of the trip, mainly Penshurst because Nanna & Pa lived their, Nanna still Shocked

Ahh the vaults of history.

What a lovely story and fond memories.

Wonder how useful that line would babe now with a shorter trip to Hamilton for a passenger service than via Ballarat and Ararat ?

It not shorter between Melbourne and Hamilton via Warrnambool than via Ballarat and Ararat

The Glenelg Highway between Ballarat and Hamilton Is a shorter route again.

Just a couple of quick points regarding the picture. You can see Mt Rouse in the background, Penshurst is more or less at the base of. The line to Warrnambool follows the road to Caramut Rd ( road to Geelong ) then heads South. My guess as to the location of the picture would be a few K's out of town, perhaps near the Blackwood turn off or a bit further down the line near the Purdeet siding.

bevans do you know who took  the picture or where did you locate it ?
