Mainline Heritage Steam in Victoria in 2021

It has occurred to me that after this coming Easter Weekend, there are steam hauled heritage trains on Victoria's mainline rail network for the next 8 weekends straight. So I thought it could be helpful to post them all in the one spot.

As these are all run by either Steamrail Victoria or 707 Operations, It should be said, that anybody seeking further information should look no further than these organisations own websites, linked below. Without these volunteer run groups, we mere spectators would have much less variety to enjoy in our hobby.

Saturday 10th of April, Steamrail are running suburban shuttles between Moorabbin and the new Kananook Sidings featuring K153 & K190

Sunday 18th of April, Steamrail are running suburban shuttles between Flinders St and Sandringham, featuring A2 986 and either K153 or K190

Saturday 24th of April, Steamrail are running to Ballarat and return "up the straight" with R711

Sunday 2nd of May, Steamrail's annual "Rail and Sail" to Geelong, locomotive TBC.

Friday 7th of May to Sunday 9th of May, 707 Operations' "Grainlander to Sea Lake and the Silo Art Trail" featuring R707 and heritage diesels

Saturday 15th May, Steamrail are running a one way trip to Ballarat with both K class locomotives, primarily as a positioning move for the next 2 weeks of activities.

Wednesday 19th of May to Monday 24th of May, Steamrail in conjunction with Cruise Express are running a six-day-five-night rail cruise, featuring 7 Steam locomotives travelling to both Sea Lake and Echuca.

Saturday 29th of May and Sunday 30th of May, Steamrail's annual Ballarat Heritage Weekend Shuttles.

And then, after just one weekend off:

Friday 11th of June to Monday 14th of June, 707 Operation's Riverlander to Echuca, Deniliquin, Swan Hill and Piangil, featuring R707 and heritage diesels.

On top of that of course we have all the usual tourist operators who operate year 'round on their own tracks. Like the superb Victorian Goldfields Railway at Castlemaine & Maldon, the Bellarine Peninsula Railway at Queenscliffe and of course the famous Puffing Billy at Belgrave just to name a few.

After a miserable 2020, it's pretty clear that the volunteers at Steamrail, 707 Operations and everywhere else as well are keen to make up for it in 2021. Well done to all involved. I look forward to it all.

I see the Grainlander to Sea Lake from the 7th to 9th of May is now going to be diesel hauled only according to 707 ops website.
