Faulconbridge Brutalist Bridge

It seems to be a bit ugly. All a bit Soviet for my liking. Thoughts?

Pisa has its leaning tower; I suppose someone felt compelled to compete.

The concrete bridge has been there quite some years, and when originally installed looked reasonably elegant. Since then, angular screens have been added to the stairs, and now the lifts which were built separately to fit, and connected by short bridges.

The screens need coming off and replaced by something that at least lines up with the existing setup.

I am no architect or engineer. But, from a functional and safety point of view, it would be good if the overpass was covered by the same screen material so as to protect the pedestrians from the elements, and the motorists from any objects being either thrown or dropped from above.

The stair and raking angles screens up from road level to bridge level were existing from when the highway was upgraded and the pedestrian bridge was put in.

Agree the new concrete lift shaft and screens have not been well thought out or considered against the existing context.

Amazing that Blue Mountains Council specifies what your front fence will look like but would allow this abomination. Still if the local council hasn't accumulated a half billion dollar "shortfall" (as per Central Coast Council) the ratepayers should probably just keep quiet and let them do what they're doing.

Classified as infrastructure, so Council has no role as a certifying authority. TfNSW would self-approve the plans.

That's because local councils have no role or even the ability to intervene in TfNSW / Railway infrastructure.

Transport will 'inform' the council as a courtesy and may even take council views into account, but at the end of the day, the railways can build whatever they want in whatever style they want.

Probably appropriate in Victoria where the population seem happy to live in  a repressive regime.

May I suggest that the plans be forwarded to WA where there seems to be a similar mindset?

That bridge screams FREEDOM AND PROGRESS  to me, not SÔCIALISM. People all over our land would love to have it in their town.
