I am hoping the collective wisdom of the Forum members can help with my problem.
Many years ago I bought and made up a LMR 40 class. They had a K & M mechanism. It was a great model but after bringing out of storage I find that one axle of each bogie has lost it nylon gear that was fitted to the axle. She still runs but at a snail pace. I have run her with the bogies disconnected and the motor runs really well. Connect everything back up again and she just crawls along. The bogies are not seized, the axles with the nylon gears attached still rotate and the (dummy axles!) just free wheel.
I was wondering if anyone could suggest a suitable fix, maybe a replacement mechanism. I was thinking maybe, of two Black Beetles with an idler axle attached somehow and 40 class sideframes from Kerroby. This arrangement would throw the bogie pivot point off centre but I imagine I could get around that one way or the other.
It is truly a shame that we have lost Main West, K&M and Hollywood Foundry. If you want to scratchbuild or update or just repair any of your locos these days it is extremely difficult.
Looking forward to suggestions, tip, input whatever (just don't tell me to bin it!)
