But they're essentially blaming the Australian government because they don't have the same rules here. In other words "you're not forcing us so we won't do it".

No, blaming the EU.

The Australian govt should not get involved in a tit for tat fight with the EU taxing cars who's production is limited by the supply chain.

Or, just wait until 2023 as per VW expectation and avoid this tit for tat fines BS by which time the cars will be even better and if you want an EV in the mean time you can buy a Tesla or the other models on offer.

Much bigger issues facing the country but linked to this and the use of heavy vehicles. If Australia does not sign up to the accord for 2030 then expect our exports to be taxed and our imports will cost a lot more. The world is about to start punishing Australia for our ignorant approach to carbon emission reductions.

The newspaper today has an article of a pending transport strike by truck drivers for toll and other companies who are demanding a pay rise and a pathway to 15% superannuation.

Have these freight forwarders heard of rail ?

Yes, but not everything can go by rail for the full journey and in many cases any of the journey.

I bet that the industrial action will be resolved long before the rail industry wakes up to the idea there's an opportunity ready to be exploited.
