As the Representative from SA, chameleon like and in a fit of spite, pique and with bile 'deleted' the previous thread on President Biden, I'm creating a new one.

If you follow both sides of US politics, please post here.

If however you have nothing sensible to post such as this below nonsense...you are NOT welcome to post here.

https://www.railpage.com.au/f-t11402562.htm

Joe Biden, in my humble opinion will create big things for the US and Amtrak in particular...hence my strong interest in US politics. The 'loony right' hates this and I will unashamedly post the the occasional link to reinforce the extremism, such as the above link.

Because I saved the thread which was deleted by the Representative from SA, I will post it again. But that poster is not welcome in this thread unless a degree of redemption is undertaken and comments that will inevitably be posted by that contributor, will in most cases be dismissed as the rantings of the loony right.

Again...all SENSIBLE posts are welcome from both sides of the political spectrum.

Mike.

As this specific page is a bit of a fan club for President Biden...despite the feeble efforts of the Representative for SA to lampoon.

Soak up this Amtrak based video...strongly supported by Amtrak Joe himself. Then think of the $50Billion, so far already allocated to Amtrak as additional funding.

https://youtu.be/9Gc-AEbSApY

It bears repeating that Joe Biden travelled 8,000 return journeys, from Wilmington to Washington DC, the distance equivalent of travelling from Beaufort, Eaglehawk or Traralgon to Southern Cross station... 8,000 times.

The loony right are going to keep on with these comments about the latest tragedy in Minneapolis and unfortunately and sadly there will probably be more. Human error, the tinder box of human beings being human beings being constantly ill-reported by the Murdoch and other far right media in attempts to make themselves relevant in the political narrative.

I'm still fascinated to see that rioting after yet another police shooting is somehow linked to Biden's presidency. Why not blame him for cyclones and tsunamis, bushfires and floods as well. The completely unhinged, almost paranoid, dislike of Biden by the Member for the SA swamp lands is just amazing.Valvegear
Yep and the fact that he thinks that we all condone the rioting and the fact that the rioting as bad and disgusting as it was is more important to him than the black man being shot dead for a minor misdemeanor.

Looting an automotive parts shop is absolute wanton anarchy, but an Insurrection that attempted to overturn a legal election, which called for the heads of Mike Pence, Nancy Pelosi and Alexandria Orcasio-Cortez and resulted in 5 people killed is a storm in a teacup, tells you all you need to know about the geezer.

Michael

I agree with the above comments and that why I posted them from the deleted thread. However I'm not perfect either, and I'll occasionally post the occasional clanger, but I won't post rubbish, outright lies and conspiracy theories and I hope others won't as well.
Enough from me...let's get on and occasionally post, (sensible) good or bad on President Joe's time in the the Oval Office.

Biden has approved almost $2b in investment for rail already with more yet to come. I would like to see extensions of the acella network further south so loco changes are not required. The southern corridor is really very very busy and would benefit from upgrades moving south.

From time to time I'll post some social media commentators who, with humour and wit expose the Republicans for the clowns that they are.

There will be, unlike the Republicans and the loony right media no conspiracy theories, just a perspective on current events.

If however the story is true of dining car staff flogging off steaks...definitely a concern. Now that it has a new lease on life, Amtrak may well go back to 'on-board' meal preparation therefore setting in train...pun intended of these kinds of scams re-commencing.

Whilst sitting on the rail replacement bus from Melton to SCS this morning, I was reading this press release issued by the White House. I specifically lifted this excerpt below:

You know, I remember one night, my daughter was only six years old, and it was my birthday.  And we were voting, and I went to Bob Dole and I said, “Bob, when’s the next vote going to take place?”  He said, “Joe, what — why?”  I said, “Well, my daughter is really upset I’m not going to be able to be home for the birthday cake she made for me.”

He said, “What do you need?”  I said, “I need just time to catch the five o’clock Metro, and I can get the 6:28 coming back,” because on the platform, you can just — in Delaware, you walk from one side to the other.  I got off the train.  My wife, Jill, was standing there, and my daughter had the cake candle lit.  I blew them out.  Gave me a kiss.  Walked  across and got on the southbound.

So, it has been part of my life.  I’ve been riding an Amtrak for almost as long as there’s been an Amtrak...

So... then Senator Biden after advising Senate Leader, Bob Dole a Republican BTW of his intentions, travelled over 210 miles there and back to blow out the candle on his birthday cake made by his 6 yo daughter.

This got me thinking later on...do I need to retire in a few years or should I keep going in a job I enjoy.

You've had your little holiday - time to start talking about the real Joe Biden. He's an idiot.

He gives Hamas US$235 million (BBC) and what happens? They buy rockets to fire at Israel in an attempt to start WWIII.

Real smart, Mister Magoo.

I missed this little gem when you opened this thread because some third party had already reported it and hence it was 'hidden'.

There was a continuous thread running for four years on this board about Trump - there's no legitimate reason why we shouldn't have an honest discussion going here specifically devoted to his immediate successor even if you have hidden it purposely in another category. You are a hypocrite in the extreme if you are purposely not allowing a warts-and-all examination of Biden. I had to listen to the shill, ridiculous hysteria about Trump and you know yourself some of it was unproven ridiculous rubbish - you have no right to decide that I can't talk about Biden at all even if some of it is just opinion and/or comment.

Anyway - thanks to Joe Biden we now have biologically complete men breaking records all over the place in women's sports - isn't that yet another wonderful thing that your hero Joe has done that deserves discussion...

Okay but if Mike is allowed to have this "Joe Biden is dreamy" thread unmolested then at the very least there should be a thread in the Lounge devoted to what Joe Biden is actually doing (or not doing) AND that thread should not be continually shut down by third parties for no other reason than they don't want to hear about his failures.

We had four continuous years of that Trump thread and nobody tried to shut that down - flat out censorship that we can't have that same conversation about Biden.

This conversation should really be in the othe 'Biden' thread so as not to upset Mike's tea and cucumber sandwiches party here - but yeah. Doesn't it seem like a really strange coincidence to you that Hamas have chosen now to start firing rockets at Israel? What changed?

Absolutely NOTHING wrong with this excerpt, thanks for posting. Smile

Joe Biden is a railfan who used to stutter seriously and still does a little and was giving his speech on the 50th Anniversary of Amtrak. I understood completely what he was saying about high speed rail in Florida and the tunnel that desperately needs replacing in New York.

Thanks again for posting this excerpt of his speech from a few weeks ago of a guy who's passionate about railroads, was speaking among other things about 'Angelo', one of the Italian descent conductors and Amtrak 'family' he got to know well during those over 1,000,000 plus (oops...there I go with the zeroes again) miles of travel between Wilmington and DC.  The President was even stating the times the trains left DC as he knew them verbatim.

Don't know about you but yeah...I get a warm feeling towards grandfatherly Joe Biden, another reason I created this thread...there was Lincoln in the 1800's, FDR & JFK in the 1900's and in the 21st Century, thus far it's Amtrak Joe.

Now I've got a train to catch...

President Biden seeks extra $$ soley to be spent on transport.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-biden-budget-transportation-idUSKCN2D92HQ

"Under the plan, the government would also replace thousands of buses and rail cars and update airports which need it, according to a White House fact sheet. It is separate from Biden’s proposed $2.3 trillion infrastructure and jobs proposal."

Biden's transport plan includes a high-speed rail connection between Orlando and the south of Florida - although there's already a private railway line that's been trying to construct a link to Orlando for a long time - Mass Transit;

Even without federal investment, there has been progress in Florida in bringing high-speed trains online. In 2018, Brightline launched the first privately operated high-speed rail line in the country linking Miami and Wast Palm Beach. The company recently passed the halfway point on construction to bring service between South Florida and Orlando. It’s scheduled for completion at the end of 2022.

Brightline remains in negotiations with the Florida Department of Transportation to extend its line from Orlando to Tampa. The two sides have until July 31 to reach a lease agreement on the state-owned right-of-way between the two cities.

Interesting to note that legal obstacles to the corridor from private landholders are the main impediment.
