RP-Pedia

Common Page editable by all.

Certain topics such as lists of things would be better organised by allowing users to edit a common page.
At the moment, Railpage does not seem to allow this. Users have to add extra material at the end of a topic, making it ever more verbose.
Topics that would benefit by a common page would include:
* List of Ministers of Railways
* List of Commissioners of Railways
* Timeline of Railway Brakes
* Timeline of Railway Couplings
Common page editing would allow such pages to be kept succinct with text added in correct order.
Since a common page might be subjected to clumsy editing or even vandalism, there would need to be an associated "Edit History" page which would record the name and date when a user last edited a common page. This Edit History page might be "trimmed" like the Test Forum.

The common page editable by all should have backup(s), which might be hidden.

Ideas for Railpage

I edited a clean version in Microsoft Word, but RP did not seem to allow be to copy and paste it back here.

Suggestions include:

** RP-pedia

Make a Common Page editable by all. The owner of the thread or post  might be given the right to mark his posts as "Owner Only" or "Edit by All" from time to time.

Rather than adding material at the end of a thread, you now have the option making your changes to the succinct Pedia page. These changes could be as small as one character (insert delete change).

To protect against clumsy editing or vandalism, there would be a log file that summerising your changes.

Suggested topics that could benefit from "Edit by All" might include
* Timeline of Brakes
* Timeline of Couplings

For what ever reason, the  A-looking button does not seem to work, so I have retyped it Microsoft Word.
For what ever reason, I had trouble copying the cleaned up copy for pasting into this thread.
How does one vote in "Website / Ideas"?

Several of the users have started work on defining the new RP platform with the new modules and ideas.  Seeking any other users who would like to join the ideas forum for the new site.

The only feature that I would like would be the ability for a computerised idiot like me to be able to post photos direct (ie without an intermediate hosting site).

Forums migration we will do last.

There are many other interesting things we are doing which have not been seen yet on this version.

Current plan is for the migration of the forums system to the new platform but specifc to this request the ability to add a media asset to the post or more than one media asset to the post (forum) or news ITEM (NEWS) will be supported.

The idea is that the media assets will be in a new module and this module has a list of assets in a user folder within the system.  When you post on the above you are upload (add the media assets using an upload) or select the asset(s) from your gallery or other users gallery if they have permitted public assets.

Hope this works.

@s3_gunzel is also working on the project with @8502

I've been conscious of this for a while. Posting photos here has always been a roundabout process and while it may be fine for me, someone technologically literate - it is still very roundabout and has far too many steps.

I wonder if we should have a separate gallery for each user for their uploads to a post on the forums (same as Timeline Photos works on Facebook) - this way, one could attach an image they've uploaded directly to a thread without needing to interact with another module - despite it being uploaded there anyway.

The idea yes is that a user can call on the media assets from any part of the system which allows them to do so including the forums, news item posts and for example the photo comp where FLICKR is not required to submit an image.
