The ABC's Country Hour is reporting GrainCorp's first winter grain has arrived at Capella on the QR's Clermont Branch in Central Queensland. A spokeperson for GrainCorp told the ABC that Watco is now running 24-hour cycle times between Mt McLaren on the Blair Athol Line to Mackay, and the new Yamala loadout on the Central Line to Gladstone.

The Goondiwindi and Thallon regions are expected to be the biggest grain producing area this year, but there has also been large crops in the Darling Downs as well. Previous season grain is currently being trucked from Northern New South Wales to storage at Goondiwindi to make room for the NSW harvest.

This also coincides with Aurizon retrieving a second stored grain set from the MVR at Gympie. The set was moved to Toowoomba earlier this week, boosting the Queensland grain fleet to two Aurizon sets and three Watco sets for this grain season, a big boost from the previous decade when no more than three sets has been normal.

There is a Watco consist, hauling freshly graffitied Graincorp wagons, in the Blackwater system. I spied it heading around Scenery St a couple of days ago, and later in the day, saw it again, heading west through Kabra.

And it passed me again this morning, heading for Gladstone. 0802 hrs, lead by WRA001 and another loco I didnt get the number of, 42 Graincorp wagons crossing the Calliope River. I held it up all the way from Kabra.
