There would not be many people using Vline into and out of Melbourne with the current restrictions. Transmission would be great reduced so how are they acquiring the virus ?

Are there many intra regional V/line journeys ?
It was a train driver who spread it

Indeed, and Conductor. Clearly, the person from Albury didn't read more than the Headline, if that.

Quite a few hopping on and off my Up service this evening.

Numbers bolstered by the axing of the previous service, the PM Up Swan Hill which was cancelled due to "delayed train crew"

I presume they have been delayed by 14 days due to isolation requirements Laughing

The Bendigo group lines should be OK for drivers due to the Echuca line shutdown although I have no insight into how many nor if they are on holidays etc etc etc

When was the last time every train in Victoria (regional vline network) was not running for a day?

The ultimate dream - to run a bus line.

It'll be interesting to see what happens tomorrow.  Could drag on for weeks, potentially....

V/line have thrown in the towel on the Bendigo line today.  Completely bustituted.  This is likely to drag on for weeks.
  hbedriver Assistant Commissioner

They seem to be running some morning peak up trains on some lines, but no corresponding evening peak down trains. Dunno how they expect people to get home….or is Melbourne such a black hole?

Many Seymour line trains running. They just had a shutdown, so most drivers and conductors would not have been exposed. Guess those planned closures are a good thing after all

Now up to 6 staff infected and 400 in Iso...

I wondered the same thing this morning while patiently waiting for my coach at Southern Cross, 2 Up Bendigo morning peak services ran but no returns. A couple on the Ballarat line as well I think.

I'm sure there is a logical explanation out there somewhere.......

Probably the rules of the late Mr Rafferty.

Were Murphy and Rafferty related, perhaps, by some chance?

Yes, quite a number commute from Ballan to Ballarat and Melton/Bacchus/Ballarat these days.

Yes, started on the Ballarat line over the weekend and apart from a sole N Class with something on the DOWN last night, nothing but buses. No trains today either, apart from 2 token UP trains this morning to keep the rust at bay. Will probably go right up to Grand Final long weekend.

When the Eltham to Hurstbridge section operated as a shuttle, they sent out two-cars at a time in the peak direction to provide more travel options.  After four arrivals they would form an eight-car train which would then return in the counter-peak direction.  Now with only up trains operating in the morning, perhaps they can take the opportunity to test nine-car VLocity out of service on the down?

A few more services returning tomorrow on the Bendigo, Ballarat and Geelong lines plus a token 2 AM Up services on the Gippsland line

Seymour operating pretty much as normal

Maybe some Tier 2 exposure site crew returning negative tests and being allowed to return to work?

Looks like it. Fingers crossed more negative tests returned with the next few days.
  Carnot Minister for Railways

No V/line passenger trains at all today.  Partly because of CBD protest etc.

Also heard that Swan Hill V/line passenger services are indefinitely suspended due to unprotected LX crossing issues North of Bendigo...

We'll be waiting a very long time before they're made idiot-proof.
  hbedriver Assistant Commissioner

I’d be surprised if the COVID issue creates new level crossings issues up there. They have stipulated internally a test train to run prior to resuming pax ops, that’s not unusual after a long train-free period.

Its actually for the protected level crossings due to infrequent traffic. Seymour to Shepparton is currently the same. Freight is still able to run subject to certain conditions but no passenger trains or light engines. As hbedriver has pointed out, once things return to normal (when enough drivers are out of isolation) a test train will run to confirm track circuit operation for the level crossings and passenger trains will resume as per usual again.
